MyHealth@EU is the current name for the European cross-border digital health infrastructure previosly known as the eHealth Digital Service Infrastructure eHDSI. It connects national eHealth systems and supports the cross-border exchange of electronic health data
Through MyHealth@EU, national eHealth systems are linked via National Contact Points for eHealth. These contact points serve as secure technical and organisational gateways between countries. Health idata remains stored within national systems and are exchanged only when necessary for healthcare purposes and in accordance with applicable EU and national data protection legislation..
What services are available?
The first MyHealth@EU services support the exchange of:
ePrescriptions and eDispensations
These services may allow patients to obtain prescribed medicines in a pharmacy in another participating EU country.
Patient Summaries
These provide healthcare professionals with essential health information, such as allergies, current medicines, major diagnoses, chronic conditions or previous important treatments.
Other services, such as laboratory results, medical imaging studies and reports, and hospital discharge reports, are expected to become available gradually as more national systems are connected and additional MyHealth@EU services are deployed.
What this means for patients
If you need medical care while travelling or staying temporarily in another EU country, authorised healthcare professionals may be able to access important health information from your home country through MyHealth@EU.
This can help make care safer, faster and better informed, especially in urgent situations or when language barriers make it difficult to explain your medical history.
The availability of each service depends on whether both countries are connected and operational for that specific MyHealth@EU service. This means that not all services are available in all EU countries yet.
