An ePrescription is a digital prescription issued by a doctor and stored in the national eHealth system. In Hungary, ePrescriptions are managed through the EESZT system and allow doctors to issue prescriptions electronically and pharmacies to retrieve and dispense valid prescriptions securely.
At EU level, ePrescriptions and eDispensations are supported through MyHealth@EU. If you are a Hungarian citizen travelling abroad
If you are travelling in another EU country and need to collect medicine prescribed in Hungary, a pharmacy abroad may be able to retrieve your Hungarian ePrescription through MyHealth@EU.
This is possible only if Hungary and the country you are visiting both support the cross-border ePrescription service. The pharmacist may need to identify you, check your valid prescriptions, and dispense the medicine according to local rules.
The medicine you receive may have a different brand name, packaging, or number of units than the one you usually receive in Hungary. The pharmacist should explain how to take the medicine and provide the necessary information about the dispensed product.
If you are an EU citizen receiving care in Hungary
If you are visiting Hungary and have a valid ePrescription from your home country, a Hungarian pharmacy may be able to retrieve and dispense it through MyHealth@EU, provided that your home country and Hungary are connected for this service.
The pharmacist may ask for identification and may access only the prescription information needed for dispensing. After the medicine is dispensed, information about the dispensation may be sent back securely to your home country to help prevent repeated dispensing of the same prescription.
